North Queensland Livestock Industry Recovery Agency
The North Queensland Livestock Industry Recovery Agency (NQLIRA) was announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison on 1 March 2019 to assist with the immediate response, recovery and reconstruction efforts in support of North, Far North and Western Queensland communities affected by heavy rainfall and wide-spread flooding in early 2019.
The Agency represents the Government’s long-term commitment to rebuild the region long after the flood waters have receded. The Agency is led by the Honourable Shane L Stone AC PGDK QC, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Advisory Board.
Saving the fish and fending off a crocodile at Spring Creek
The team at Spring Creek Barramundi near Townsville is just one example of many who have been assisted to get back on their feet after the devastating floods.
Major flash flooding around Townsville cut off their roads, blew out shed walls, collapsed the roof of the processing room and eroded their production ponds.
With the help of a $75,000 Special Disaster Assistance Recovery Grant, company CEO Brenda Pike and managers Tim Bade and Simon Osborne have begun rebuilding their infrastructure and getting staff back onsite.
“Being able to access these funds really helped us to get back underway as quickly as possible and helped to minimise some of the financial hardship felt after the disaster.”
