Communities devastated by the North and Far North Queensland Monsoon Trough are assured support for long-term recovery as part of Stage 3 of the flood recovery program.
The $242 million recovery package is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments.
The package funds a wide range of measures to address gaps in existing recovery assistance, including small business recovery initiatives, rehabilitating and restoring flood affected river and coastal environments and greater access to mental health and wellbeing support services.
It will also help communities be better prepared for future disasters, with funding available for more accurate flood mapping and improved flood monitoring systems.
The North Queensland Livestock Industry Recovery Agency is leading the multi-staged recovery program and will also consider further ways the Australian Government can support farmers to recover and rebuild their businesses.
Stage 1 of the Australian Government flood recovery program includes a $300 million grant program for primary producers, while Stage 2 includes new measures to assist schools and families to enable better radar coverage and flood advice.
